Should i go for it?
why was the engine rebuilt? I know the bike was wrecked but unless it was really bad there would be no reason for a rebuild at 8k, and like Dago said, a rebuild at 8k probably took some shortcuts that may require another rebuild later. I still think the 600 may be a bit of a challenge for you mechanically, but if you have the patience and the money to fix any problems, then go with what makes you happy.
^Agree with Rocket; if you're new to the game and (no offense) not real mechanical, you'd be better off getting a "turn key" bike that wouldn't require a 6th sense of pending problems. Yeah; it wouldn't scoot like the 600, but you don't need that right now. You need a reliable, attractive bike you can be proud of as you learn.
I think I speak for most of us on this site, when I say that (all due respect) beginners need to have a bike that builds their confidence instead of their frustration level. (That comes later, as you move up the power chart buthave a good awareness of what's stupid and what's safe.) Believe me, I love a good dose of displacement as much as anyone, but if I'd had a late model 600 sportbike when I was learning, I'd have been dead many years ago. Go with the 250.

First off I am kind of a n00b, but the thing is I want to work on my bike. I don't exactly want a new bike(although I would love one for free). I want to make the bike my own. I am kind of mechanically inclined, and i love to learn about bikes. I want to be more mechanically inclined don't get me wrong. The real issue that i am coming to now is that; if that i don't get that bike now i might not be able to get a bike for a long long long time. Im willing to wait becuase bikes are that awesome, but at least I could have this bike for the time being. Kinda like a interim bike(kinda like interim A.D. Tom Osbourne..who is replacing that retard steve peterson).
Yeah I made my decision today im gonna wait it out and most likely will end up buying a 08' 250 when I move out. I am hoping there will be some used ones around then. Other than that thanks for the advice.
