Kawasaki said it never happened !!!
Prior to purchasing both a Vulcan 900 and a Vulcan 2000, I spent 26 years riding a bulletproof 1982 Goldwing.
Moving from a driveshaft bike to a belt drive, I posed one question to a lot of Kawasaki dealers. "How do these belts hold up?"
Without missing a beat, every dealer pretty much said the same thing.
Either they never replaced one or they never heard of anyone who broke one.
As of Nov. 13, 2009, I, Mark Edward Marchiafava, wrote history, breaking the first belt ever on a Kawasaki motorcycle.
Nope, your warranty does NOT cover belts.
Nope, to the best of my knowledge, there's no aftermarket source for the Vulcan 2000 belt.
Price for this jewel of the Nile? Just a tad over $500.00, plus an hour and a half of labor.
Be careful............

Welcome, Mark. I'm willing to bet Gates would have a cross reference or a belt that would fit that application. I spec Gates belts and hoses whenever possible, because they make the best, and they have an incredible application list. Go to their website and check out the pdf catalogs. Call one of their distributors if need be. Good luck.
Gear up. Stay safe.
(Sorry for the sales pitch. We ALL want stuff that works; just speaking from experience.)

And the response from Gates:
"Hello - we currently do not research the bikes for the aftermarket and in the case of Harley we make the OE however we are not allowed to offer an aftermarket replacement."

Dunno about belts. Had a Buell break one in front of me at a trackday once. Nearly cleaned him up when he unexpectedly slowed. Next lap I was wondering what the snake was on the track. Then I noticed unhappy looking rider at a flag point and the penny dropped.

One of our customers who both put us in business and rides bikes is the Rubber House down in Baton Rouge.
Next time I wander in that direction, JD assured me he'll thoroughly search his manufacturers, including Gates, for a belt that'll match up to the old one I'll bring him.
Once I get a fresh pic of the bike, I'll post it, a true one-of-a-kind Vulcan 2000.
Thanks for the responses !!!
