Default hi everyone. zx10 problem

I have a 2008 zx10 my gear selector shaft broke this weekend and bike has done about 40k km on the clock. I would like to find out if there was a flaw in the gear selector shaft? Does the shaft really take so much strain? And are the new models shafts better to put on my bike?
thanks

Ever dropped it on the left side? Owned since new? Know the history?

hmm, post up on any gear selection lever failures. Normally it is a tip over at some time that caused an issue with the shifter. Thanks for the heads up.

Default history zx10

Hi i bought the bike from a friend when it had like 8000kms on the clock cause the bike just stood in the garage and he bought it new. Never dropped the bike. Only problem I ever had with the bike was stator and now the gear selector shaft. I service the bike every 5000kms. And I ride with it every day. Here are some links that I found on other forums. That they say it is a flaw on the 08-09 models

Don't know enough to say if it is common problem or not, but I can say it is a very easy fix. Personally I would take the shift lever off, lay the bike over on its left side, pull the clutch cover, remove clutch basket, remove old shaft, change the shaft seal, install new shaft and reverse procedure! I've broken a few on the cbr....
