Question Considering 1983 440 LTD Belt Drive

I haven't owned a bike since 1971, but I did take the Rider Education course a couple of years ago and I'm thinking about getting a bike to re-learn on before it's too late. I'm pretty handy mechanically and wondering what issues I should look for on a bike that's been in storage for a couple of years but seems to run well. It appears to be all original, has 12,000 miles on it, if you can trust the odometer, and looks to have been stored inside most of it's life. I would expect to replace things like tires and batteries but am wondering if the bike has a history of any weak spots over the years. Any suggestions on things to look for, how much is too much, and anything else you feel like sharing is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Computers are my profession, mechanical is just a sideline. Peace

what is your comfy level and what expectations for street use? I love my ninja 500 for everyday use as an example. the 450 is kind of a turd in a way and is placed with the Honda Rebel 250 in a lot of regards.
