I started on a Honda Trail 70 ATC (3-wheeler) and then moved up to a Honda Trail 70 minibike. My first street bike was a '79 Honda XL185C.

You guys forgot to mention the ZX-14, a great beginner bike if you really do not like the idea of retiring at a ripe old age.

I personally started street riding with my current 07 zx-6r... I love it... But I am not conforming to the stereotype that since you have a street bike that you need to ride like an @#$hole. But most of the newer liter bikes that are coming out have a power limiter anyways!! You just have to be smart enough to realize that you are a beginner and keep it low for a while. I guess I am agreeing with the guy who said that it really doesn't matter the size of the bike... It is all about the rider!

I started on a 750 cruiser and about two weeks later realized I needed something faster and lighter. After about a year of riding I jumped up to an 02 GSX-R 1000, I know it's a huge jump, but I was a great deal and my dream bike at that time. Now ihave a 600 and realize I don't need more power than that.

I think someone could start on any bike. Just start out slow and see what the bike is capable of. Get a feel for the bike. Any rider can adapt to any bike with a little respect.
