Default ATTN:::: All ZR7-S owners

I bought an 01 ZR7-S last summer. Not a zx7. It is my first bike and I am curuious about it. I just dosen't have the get up and go like I thought. I'm looking to hear some stories from real world bike owners about this bike. Racing ect. I ran with a cobalt ss stock all the way to 145mph and never could pull on him even in the 70mph range. I was riding with my brother in law and he has a yamaha YZF 600 i couldn't even come close to him from a
roll. The bike only has 7.5k miles on it so it shouldn't need any major maint.
Any ideas or info from anyone??

Thanks Kyle

ok, pm was sent. If you take a peek at the 7s configuration, you can see the two valves per cylinder similar to the Z styles and the low compression of 9.5. There are other differences of course when compared to the ninja zx engines. Being Air cooled kinda sticks out some as well.

ENGINE

Type: 738cc air-cooled, 8-valve DOHC inline fourBore x stroke: 66 x 54mmCompression ratio: 9.5:1Ignition: transistorized, digital, w/ throttle pos. sensorFuel delivery: four 32mm Keihin CVKD

Those are nice bikes, but they are not fast bikes. The engine design was used in the late 70's early 80's so there was not alot of power available compared to mordern sport bikes. As for the Cobalt, I would assume you could pull him unless it has been modified which, if it hit 145mph, it must be. Depending on your experience on the bike, you may have some learning still to do. You could get a jet kit and a full exhaust for it and that would help some, but a supersport 600 will take you everytime. The ZR-7 is a naked bike which hurts it at speed since there is little to no aerodynamics working for it.

I work with the cobalt owner and it is completely stock and brand new. He had a jump on me from the onramp onto the highway. And he really never pulled on me until 120 or so and about there i'm almost ready to shift into 5th gear. the bike sat for a while, so i wonder if it needs carb tuning or anything. It runs and idles pretty good, and dosen't really have problems starting. Thanks for the info on the engine too, i didn't know a whole lot about it.
