Default zx9 parts interchange/ swing arm

Ok, for anyone who wants to change their 98-99 swing arm to a 03 model you better make sure your dedicated to the tasks at hand. I had to ream out the frame on both sides because the holes are smaller on the 98, the 03 bolt is much bigger. You can use an 03 shock on the 98 also. The 98 swing arm has a smaller opening for the rear axle so you wont be able to use your stock wheel because the bearings are too small and smaller bolt/ bearings on the pivot shaft. I did the swap so i could use the 6.0 wheel from an 03 and plus the newer swing arm is allot stronger. Another note on the 98-99 is that the steering head is bigger on top and a 02-03 triple will not work because it uses a smaller top bearing. . You can use the forks on a 98-99 model from an 03 but you will need the brakes and wheel also becase the 98-99 axle is smaller. The fairings all inter change from 98-03 except the tail section. Tail light is the same, motors all bolt in from 98-03 also.

Too bad i did not document the process or i would. I tell you that you have to have patience and dedication, not for a novice mechanic. I was scared the whole time afraid of destroying the frame.

Yeah, but that's what makes moto repair so darn fun! Few (VERY few) things are better than the learning and the A-HA! when you get a repair or assembly completed that you haven't tackled before! (...and it comes out just right.)
