I want to start riding some long trips, which tools should I pack to avoid getting standed out in the middle of the desert ?

 

tire plug kit and a mini bike tire pump (takes along time if you have to do it but it will work)
socket wrench with an extension and a couple of the most common socket sized for your bike.
some heavy duty zip ties (they can even be used as hose clamps on coolant hoses in emergencies)
some pliers.

that should all fit into a fanny pack (sorry the fanny pack is an inside joke)

 

oh and some first aid - sometimesits not the bike you have to patch up in order to get back to civilization
