Inline fuel filter for ninja 250R
I'm so excited I get to post in DIY now!!
So anyway, Ever since I discovered what my fuel filter (if you can call it that) looks like, I have wanted to install an inline filter with much better filtration than the dinky little pebble sock that is in there now. As stated in the post that enlightened me to this idea, the local auto shops have NOTHING!!! until, I went to an obscure auto shop that deals entirely in import vehicles. Figuring that they would have metric stuff I figured I would buy some hose and adjustable clamps (to replace the cheapsh*t ring clamp Kawi put on there). Turns out they had the right size hose, clamps, and a fuel filter, that although large, could be convinced to stay in place.
The following is the documentary on the days work:
To start here are some pics of the stock pieces: the hose with rinky dink clamps, the fuel sock that couldn't stop sand for it's life, and the fuel sock in the carb.

RE: Inline fuel filter for ninja 250R
After removing all of these pieces, I fit the filter into the new hose (I saved the stock hose so as not to put myself up the river without a paddle if something went wrong) and cut it into two pieces that appeared to be small enough to fit. There is very little room to work with and this filter proved itself to be a little too big, but I did find a way to fit it in.
Below are the pics of the hose and filter and the rig hooked up, showing the carb inlet and then the whole rig. The hose was a 7mm ID and it fits perfectly (this is the exact diam. of the stock). The hose also was not very flexible, which made this work very difficult as well. Also, this arrangement DID NOT work, because the angle the filter made to the carb was not steep enough to fill the filter and maintain the carb float level. This was with the arrow of the filer pointing in the direction of flow.

RE: Inline fuel filter for ninja 250R
To fix the problem, I tried making the hose length shorter, the original hose wrapped around in strange ways, and zip ties to hold up the hose at an angle. The final solution was to reverse the direction of the filter so that it will flow down better, and to mount it resting on the fuel enrichment line. With this setup it is at just an angle to where vacuum siphons enough down to fill the filter and let the fun begin! I admit it is a tad bit ghetto rigged, but it gets the job done, it has airflow so I won't blow up on the road, and I can simply carry the stock setup and a screwdriver around in case it falls apart, which I don't think it will. The airplane clamps do a great job of getting and staying tight. Also, I don't worry about the reverse direction of the filter because the system runs on negative pressure and weak pressure at that. Q's comments and concerns welcomed!

sure thing. It seems to work just fine, and the ninja 250 doesn't use enough gas to come close to draining it either. No apparent leakage so far, no gas smell, no wet hoses, so I assume that all is well!

That fuel filter is an excellent way to tell if you have water in your fuel also. You can see the water at the bottom of the clear filter housing. These only work with NON Fuel injected bikes because I don't think they can hold up to the fuel pump pressure of fuel injected bikes.
