Default Fun with Bondo!

I recently repaired a crack in my fiberglass tailpiece using bondo! I have no experience with it whatsoever, but I made a practice run on the original body(wrecked by original owner) and completely filled in a HUGE crack down the tail! I then went straight to my bike and went for the fix. I sanded it down a little too much the first time and had to apply a second coat, but thats what it's for. Anyone with minor cracks should definitely try this, although I don't have a paint job at the moment so I don't mind my bike looking mutlicolored for a week or two. If anyone isinterested I can post moreabout the actual steps of this process with somepictures as well. It was a wholelot of fun and I thought I would post about it.

Here is your pics!

Bondo, hardener, assorted sandpapers

Damaged near right handlebar area of upper fairing

Bondo applied, ready to sand with 60 grit, 220 grit, 400 grit, in that order

Bondo sanded, showing much improvement, though another coat is needed

The finished tail on my bike

Any questions/comments/concerns??? It was a lot of fun!

Not bad! A big crack does not belong on a motorcycle tail section.

Nice! I bet after you paint, you won't be able to tell it was even there. Well done!

The only way you would be able to tell that I did some bondo work is if I didn't sand it enough. You should be constantly running your fingers over your work area to see if it feels unlevel or lumpy at all. Your fingers should make a real smoothtransition from non bondo to bondo areas, and if they don't, just keep on sanding! I did the bondo section in the pictures in about an hour to an hour anda half....and no, no cracks in the tail section. Haha
