Default Front Sprocket

Has anyone replaced their standard steel front sprocket with a rubber cushioned one? I believe this was standard practice starting in the early 90's from the factory, but my 1984 Ninja came with a steel one and I was wondering if I replace it with the rubber cushioned one if that would help the life of the chain? thanks, Mike.

It may make the bike a little quieter but don't expect chain life to increase.
