Diesel and kerosene are very similar. Might say that kerosene is "cleaned-up" diesel. I've used kerosene on my chain and to clean metal (not chrome, obviously) parts for years. Dry the chain or parts and lube as preferred.
Brake cleaner has a higher naptha level. Notice how it evaporates so quickly? Gasoline is related, through changes in the carbon chain. It all comes from Dino.
