1982 KZ440 LTD engine help
Hi all. I just aquired a 1982 KZ440, belt drive and I am redoing the motor on it. The previous owner laid it out and never shut it off in time and so siezed the motor. I have it out of the bike and on the bench. I am fairly sure that I have all of the bolts out of the case and now I don't know how to split the upper section off from the lower section. The 2 halves are held together with mostly 10mm bolts and a few 14 mm thrown in just to make things interesting. I have all of the bolts out of the side covers as well. I don't want to force the parts apart and damage the motor, so I am looking for hints, advise, instructions, whatever. :-D I also have another 440 engine here as well, but I think that it is out of a regular KZ440 as it was chain driven. My original plan was to just swap the 2 engines, but I don't think that will work as the transmission case is not the same.
So, please, any help here would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

RE: 1982 KZ440 LTD engine help
Just make sure ALL the bolts are out. There may be bolts on the top side of the case also. If all the bolts are out, try tapping the cases with a plastic or dead blow mallet. Some cases have spots where you can pry with a screw driver. The case bond sealer holds it pretty tight so be careful prying; don;t use too much force. If you have to force it, there is a bolt still in somewhere.
