You staying with conventional forks? Or do you want an upside down fork setup? You can go either way, of course the upside down fork set up will cost ya more because of the new triple clamps and bearings.

edit: That is if the rest of the frame can handle the increased stress from cornering.

which is better the conventional or the upside down style I now updating will coast but this will be a long term priject so moneys not really to big of an issue. The frame is perfect no accidents or anything but do i need to reinforce certin parts of it for extra strength?

Kinda depends on how "original-looking" you want to go. Conventional would be more original (although I would get them reworked), but upside down would be kinda new-age retro. Most of the newer custom stuff has the upside downers. They are a bit heavier and would stress your frame, like Drag suggests. I'd begin by beefing up the triple and adding an extra crossmember or two in the frame. You may even have to get creative if the headstock doesn't lend itself to matching-up with anything useful. Just watch your geometry.

I was not implying that the added weight would cause the stress on the frame. A reworked conventional fork and shock with good tires and setup will stress a frame on a hard corner. You can feel the frame flexing.

I wanna go for the clip on look so something like the upside down shock sound like wat i want. DO the triple clamp from the newer kz fit the 81 frame, does anyone know. Has anyone reinforce a frame before id be looking for pics and measurements on where to add a cross brace. also the original timing has been messed up the points were bent to get the timing close but the engine loads too early you cant get it to go over 55 and theres a lot of vibration. and i tryed adjusting it but no dice. WOuld an electronic timing fix this>

(In order
Very likely NO. (yes)
Yes, but not an 81. Look for the stress/flex points.
Switch to electronic ignition.
Vibration in the engine?? Frame??
Assuming it's only a timing issue, maybe.
j_, if you've not tackled a project like this before, it may end up in an expensive box in the back of your garage.Even on a good day, such a project can cause the wife and kids to rent a hotel room because they've never seen you act like this before.....[:@]
