Default '77 KE175 Headlight wiring

I recently bought a 77 KE175. The headlight didn't work so I got a 4020 which does work. The problem is that the three leads that plug into the light are separated. I took a picture of how they were plugged in but didn't have it with me when I installed the light. Long story short, I put the leads in the wrong spots from where they were but I have now discovered the headlight works no matter where I put each plug. I only ran the light for about 10-20 seconds in each position but each time the plugs on the back of the light got very warm, which seems odd given the short amount of time I ran it.

I have two questions;

Does this seem odd to anyone (the heat)?

Does anyone know which wire goes to which plug? The three I have are red with white stripe, red with yellow stripe and a black wire.

Thank you.
