Default 1984 700 LTD ZN700 REBUILD HELP?!

hey everybody,
i picked up an '84 700 LTD (zn700) with 19,000 miles the other day for 200$, bought a battery and cleaned the carbs out...started up the bike an d within a few seconds out came a connecting rod cap, through a recent hole in the bezel case...im wondering what you guys think about rebuilding it..the bike is in ok shape, some broken plastics here and there, all replaceable...theres a guy on ebay selling practically a whole disassembled bike and to get the bezel case and cylinder assembly it will be 60 +shipping...but i also need to find a new connecting rod which im not sure if he has or not..i was wondering if it is worth the effort to do so. i want a bike and i dont know if i should spend the time and money to do this and mainly what else i will need(or want to do while im down there for that matter) i need a bike thaitll get me from austin to cali(1600miles) without major issues..what do you all think?

hmm, tough luck right there. I would prolly part out the ride if it was me. Or if you are that fond with the 700 ltd, find another engine. I think that after a rebuild, you would have more money tied up in the ride and not including the time to do this, to be justifiable. My opinion that is.
