Default 500 service

Hi all, I bought a brand new Vulcan 500 in May. I am about to take her in for her first service and am wondering, is it really neccesary. The bike is running better than ever since the brake in period. Iv'e heard that if nothing is wrong don't worry about it, but since she's under warranty I thought I should. The service is not a covered expense. Any thoughts? Thanks

how many miles on it? I bought mine 2 weeks ago and had it brought in for the 500 mile service. Have you changed the oil and filter? That needs to be done. THey also check your valves which should be done to make sure they are operating properly. would suck to have an issue then have the warranty not cover it because you did not have it serviced as stated in your owners manual. my service was $225. i purchased a 4 year unlimited mileage service plan from my dealer though so it was "free". I would say at least get the first one done...

At 500 miles I changed the oil, filter and air filter. I called the dealer and was told that I didn't really have to bring it in at 500 mi because there wouldn't be anything to do and I would be wasting my $$. He said to bring it in at about 2500 mi which is where I'm at now. By the way, how are you liking yours?

LOVIN IT! its a hell of an upgrade from the 1980 honda cm400 i had previously... wish there was more aftermarket support.

We should get them to start an aftermarket support sticky on this forum, so as people find the rare places that support this platform we can share it with others.

So far scootworks seems to be the best.

They checked my valve clearence, and i marked the bolts with small amounts of white out to confirm that they did it, i know they at least removed the valve cover... and confirmed catburatuer sychonization. the rest of what they did was a simple lube job and bolt tightening.

ask him what he plans to do at this service, and why he wouldnt do what the owners manual tells him to if he is a certified dealer?

how do you like yours after 2500 miles?

I hate to get off of it. I don't have anything to compare it to. I had a 73 Kaw 90 G3 when I was 16. Haven't ridden since. (Been over 30 yrs) This is what i'd call my first REAL bike.

Bought mine 8 weeks ago now has 1600 mi. Took it in at 500 miles did the oil change myself, they charged me $85.00. Soon it needs to tgo in for the 3000 check, Lots of fun, last bike was a 72 Honda cb350 got so no one would agree to work on it or even look at it. Sold it to a collector cheap. Now I need to sell a 92 Mazda Miata to help pay for the new bike. Wife is on my butt all day about selling the Miata, but its hard to sell a car with 176,000 mi on it.
