problems w/1600 classic
Im having a problem with my fuel pump (i think) When I roll the throttle slow bike runs well but when I snap it say to pass it sputters like its starving for gas every one tells me to check the filter but there is not one (yes i checked every parts fiche there is) however there is a small screen in the pump its self but they say that I cant buy that by its self i have to buy a hole new pump ($448) Any suggestions
It seems like you would be able to replace the screen. I guess you tried a Kaw shop. I think before I'd pay that much, I'd check the air filter, make sure the air filter assembly is securely fastened to the manifold and try a different brand of gas. Sometimes a loose air intake assembly will cause the problem you're describing. Let me know how you make out.
The problem may actually have been the pump and not the filter. The pump may have had a vaccum leak and was not supplying gas at the proper levels on demand. Without doing a pressure check on the pump's output, one would not know for sure. Either way, you're back on the road and shouldn't have to worry about your fuel supply, as long as the tank's not empty.
Have a great day.
