Nomad Stalling Bad
Bought the Nomad about 3 mos ago. I have been having problems where the motorcycle stalls within moments of riding it. Initially this would only happen once and then I would restart it and it would be ok. Now it stalls approx 5 times within the first two minutes of riding it. I have tried warming the engine longer but that has no effect and it has never stalled while idling. Could you please make any suggestions for me to look at? It almost feels like a gas problem but again it never stalls when idling and stops stalling after approx 2-3 minutes of riding.Your help is appreciated,
Based solely on what I've heard thus far in my brief arrival to this site, the Nomad's tend to idle low. Some have adjusted the idle to idle at 800-900rpm's. This will throw more fuel at it so it doesn't stall. Try starting there (idle adjustment) and if that doesn't do it, start in with the air: fuel mixture.
If it's a bit older bike there's always the chance that the fuel lines are a bit clogged (try SeaFoam to clear them out) or the injectors/jets are clogged. Kind of a shotgun approach, but that's a breif summary of what I've learned so far here on this forum abuot this issue.
Hope it helps,
Daryl

My 07 did exactly the same thing. I phoned one dealership and described the symptoms - theysuggested that the idlemay betoo low. I wasn't comfortable with that, as the idle sounded a little bit too high if anything, and because the stalling was not while at idle.
I went on a few 'test' rides over the next several days- paying particular attention to the conditions when the symptom occured. I noticed that (1) it happened only at the first part of a ride with a 'cold' engine, (2) wouldstall at the instant that I rolled off the throttle to shift, (3) I would always get a lit FI warning light at stall, and (4) the problemdid notoccur once the engine was warmed up. As far as these first couple/several shifts would go, after awhile I noticed that even when it didn't stall, the FI failure light would flash for an instant during the throttle roll-off while shifting.
This told me that the FI system was receiving a 'failure' condition, but that it seemed instantaneous (as indicated by the brief flashes of the FI light during times when it did not stall), and if it did stall - the FI light would reset when the ignition was turned off then back on.
I suspected inadequate fuel delivery - possible from a vacuum in the tank. So, the next morning I popped open the gas cap and started off on my usual route with the cap open. The bike did not stall.
I made an appointment with the dealership - asking them to reroute the tank vent line. Since this was performed, I have not had one single stalling incident. Fixed!
Oh yeah, the dealership lowered my idle a bit too!
Good luck.

I defaffled my Nomad yesterday and to get that HD rumble, I turned the idle down. That was an issue this morning on the way to work. Everytime I went around a corner at slow speeds it would stall. Turned the idle up some for the drive home and the problem seems to be gone. Give that a try!
05 classic 1600 has done the same recently I will seafoam today. always seem to have to adjust the idle. the fastidle/choke doesn't do squat on my bike. big air kit may have something to do with that?? I'll let ya know
