backfire an missing

New rider. Just bought a 1997 1500 classic. IT Backfires and misses real bad for a while then runs fine for a while. Started running 93 octane gas this seamed tohelp but not cure the problem. Any suggestions?

without history and what has been done to maintain the ride, hard to say at the moment. could be a couple of things to do and check.
