Default 92 VN1500A Transmission

I have a really nice 92 1500A, enjoy it thoroughly, one gripe I have is the 4 spd tranny. Is it within the bounds of ralistic thinking to want to convert it to a 5 spd, or is it just crazy crack talk?

I am really interested in doing, but haven't been able to find any info on it!

Thanks!

I have a 96 1500 Classic with a 4 speed . Not sure why Kaw. would have done this. Was thinking about doing the same thing, but never found anything on changing the gearing.I'm thinking the cost would be crazy though.I'm sure it would be cheaper to get into something else with a 5 speed. This is the main reason, besides the 3.8 gallon fuel tank and having to stop for fuelevery 100 miles, that I'm looking at a new 1600 Nomad.

yeah, the small fuel tank doesn't amuse me either.
For running around town, its just fine, but when I head out on the road, I always have to be conscious of the limitations of the tank!

On the other hand, after 100 miles or so, I don't mind getting of the bike for a few minutes!!!

Went to Sturgis last year and it seamed like we would just get cruising on the big road and I would have to stop for gas. It was a pain in the ***. Went out there with Goldwings,Ultra classics, etc.
Them things would fill up everyother time I would.

Hmm.... you can get new tanks.... wonder what it would take to fit a bigger tank?
Or would it ruin the lines of the bike?[sm=lildevil.gif]

Hmm......

Yeah.... between the cost of the new tranny, and the fact that I would have to replace the especially small gas tank, I have decided to leave the Vulcan the way it is, and keep it for a short trip/cruising around town bike, and find some thing a little better suited for cross country!!!
