Default KLX 300 Tank Question

My girl has a bunch or her friends over and they are cackling in the house, so I retreated to the shop and started tinkering with my new to me klx 300 tank.

Seemslike it will fitok but what is this strap for on the parts website. Is it to hold theseat down......it seems like a flathead screwinstalled in one of the brass fitings would work fine, not sure?

I need to buy a petcock and maybe a bushing or two so obviously I would like to buy all the parts at once. Anyone done this or former klx300 owners.

Pic I hope Strap is p/n 92072

That hooks on the frame and holds the tank in place by hooking over the bottom most screw. The square part of the strap goes to the frame, and the triangular hook end goes over the screw on the upper side of the tank. Part 92160A fits just under the end of the tank between the tank and the frame. The IMS 3.2 gallon tank was the same way.

BTW, I wouldn't call those parts mandatory if you don't have them, it's not like your tank is going to fall off since it's bolted in at the sides. I think it's there to keep it from shifting or tilting or maybe to provide a little "give" when you snug the seat on.

I thought those screws usually stayed in with the tank. I can't remember if you have to use them with an IMS tank, I thought they also had the screws with them. It doesn't look like they are parts you can order? I would not worry to much about thethe strap.Mine somehow came off and I rode for a long time without one with no problems. If you are ordering parts you might as well get it assuming the frame is like the 300 and has the place to hook it. I wouldhowever like to have the seat hold down screw. Without it, the seat has a tendency to move around and slap the tank just a little while riding off road.If you can't find one you can probably just use a screw with a large head or JB Weld/epoxy/weld a washer to a screw and make that work.

I used a screw that fit into the brass fitting and a RTV'd a washer to the screw head to give a place for the front of the seat to lock in. Seat the screw just deep enough so that the washer has a little clearance so the slot in the seat pan can slip under.

Thanks Agoos and NoBrakes, that's what I thought. No biggie the price of the tank was right. The brass fitting lines up with the hook on the seat perfectly....I'll just make a screw and tack a washer on it....good enough, no rtv for me.

Seems weird the the screw clip part in not listed, oh well.

Did you get the petcock with the tank? If so, that's definitely a good deal since those things are expensive new and the KLX250S petcock won't work in the '300 tank.

Opps, missed your post NB, it did not come with the petcock, but a new one is only $55 so I will only have $115 total in the tank mod ....... not bad in my book for 2.6 gallons and the cheap klx 300 replacement rad shrouds.
