Default 351 Install Help

Hey all, sorry it's been so long since I've posted/commented/participated. I accepted a job offer in Oklahoma, but decided to leave my bike behind with a friend to prevent theft from my new apartment parking lot.

Anyway, I've got a few days of vacation coming up at the beginning of July, and while I'm back in town with my bike I was planning on doing the 351 kit install. Here's the problem I'm having: When I picked up my kit from Mr. Blue, he didn't have any more installation direction sheets, just the wire rerouting instructions for his custom carb. He told me the directions for installing the 351, but that was back in November and I don't remember the torque specs, or the order to do the cylinder bolts in. I've watched a tutorial on YouTube several times, but he doesn't explain the order or different torques, he just does it.

Also, is it necessary to use an RTV product to make a gasket since it came with new gaskets? I won't have a problem using it, I just think it seems like overkill.

Any help is appreciated, and if someone still has a copy of the installation instructions they can upload a picture or pdf file of, that would be excellent.

I don't recall any installation instructions with mine.
Use RTV on the valve cover gasket half moons. That's the only place that I recall.
You should have a shop manual. Really. Get one.
Check the FAQ link in my sig line and search for the 351 install threads (oh, there's also a link to one in my sig line).

there is a 09 manuel posted in the forum sticky's, it has the info you are requesting.
Make sure you have the rings in the right order and the piston orientated correctly before installing the head.

Yes do your homework before starting this, and be as prepared as you can. Look up the threads on here describing the procedure and study them before starting. IDRIDR has things nicely organized in that link in his sig. You will need the shop manual. There was no instruction sheet when i did my big bore upgrade.
Best luck Dan

I appreciate all the responses and advice guys, thanks. I've watched MrDuhFactor do it several times on his youtube vids, and as soon as I have some free money I'll get a shop manual. Guess I'll be waiting to do the big bore kit some more.

If you're really ****, you can remove the rings from the pistons and verify all of the clearances. I did and everything was dead on specs. Ultimately, as the installer, you are responsible for making sure that everything is correct but Bill is pretty meticulous about his machine work...
