Default Flat spot

My 2008 ZZR600 seems to have developed a flat spot. I followed the manufacturer's break in procedure. I now have 1700 miles on it, and for the last several hundred miles, there is a flat spot between 4-5K RPM. It's most noticeable in the first 2 gears, or when trying to maintain a speed between that 4-5K area, regardless of what gear I'm in. The bike runs perfectly from 5K and above. Has anyone else experienced this? I've tried several different brands of fuel ranging from 91 to 93 octane. The bike is still under factory warranty, but I'm reluctant to return to the dealer. I have some mechanical skill, but not to the point where I'm comfortable with any carburetor or internal engine work. I realize that carbureted bikes may not be as smooth as a fuel injected machine, but mine was smooth until recently. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

When i am in 2nd and 3rd gear, my bike has a little hard time as well with maintaining a the rpm's around 2500-4000... I would only imagine it to be the carbs, and am told by many that its not big deal. Now if you were accelerating and this happend i would be a little concerned. I have an 07 zzr with 3000 miles on it.

Not sure, what air filter are you running? Have you done anything to the bike yet? These bikes are notorious for the flat spot...

The bike is all mechanically stock. I've done nothing but routine oil and filter changes. It seems to have subsided a bit the last 100 miles. I believe it to be carb related. I can live with the condition, as it's barely noticeable. I'm considering an aftermarket exhaust, which will require a carb rejetting anyway.

try this i had to order mine through the local polaris dealer this seems to remedy the flat spots. its a "Factory Pro ignition advance" they will probably have to order it for a 00-02 zx6 but it will fit. its an easy swap too. take off the plastic that covers the right side ( exhaust side ) and its the engine cover above where you fill the oil. take the cover off and replace the rotor its just one bolt that holds it on... its easy to figure out i just really suck at explaining things

I've read about this mod in relation to my Katana, but the infomation I gathered on that is that Canadian bikes are already advanced from the factory. Does this also apply to the ZZR's?

With the Kats their timing in the US from factor is 4deg BTDC, the advancer pops it out another 5 to 9deg BTDC. The US models are at 4 because of more stringent emmissions requirements. Canadian models come 9deg BTDC from the factory. Just wondering if the ZZR's are the same between US and Canadian models?

i actually went to the kawasaki canada website and i could not find any parts diagrams to see if the ignition rotors were the same... i could not get into the members area so unless its in there i have no clue if they are different.
