Default advice on break in

Just picked up my new ZZR600 drove it home from the dealer and kept under 4k for rpms. I have 17 miles on it, what is the best way to follow break in to assure a long life from the motor? Any advice would be great.

ride it like you stole it....lol j/k i follow manufactures specs for the most part. it's never done me wrong.

i just bought me a zzr last monday...March 27..and I have 500+ miles on it already ..Well, as far as the break in, if you look at your RPM gauge, it should have a sticker measurement telling you how to break it in at what RPM...as it is told, 4000rpm up to 500 miles..Well, that can't get you fast enough on the Highway. I rode mine up to 6k rpm ( i lied, sometime up to 8k rpm).

I've read a few reply's in other post regarding opinion on break in and every now and then someone say to "vary the rpm's and not keep a constant speed for extended period of time. My question is what is a considered an extended amount of time? I currently have 120ish mile's on my new zzr and i stay as close to 4000 rpm as i can occasionally exceeding that by 1-2000 rpm for short periods oftime forthe most part i keep the tach right at 4 the majority of my ride (Which is about 20 miles of stop & go a day). Just looking for the popular consensus.

Kept mine under 8-9000 rpm unitil first service....havent had any problems so it must have been ok.

staying at a steady rpm is actually more gentle on the engine internals that accelerating and decelerating the internals to various rpm.. neither thing should cause a problem for the breakin as long as you aren't screaming up to 12000rpm before the cylinder walls and piston rings wear to math

Of course if you just do what they suggested (manufacturer), you probably can't go wrong.

You need to vary the rpms as much as possible.A few heat cycles(letting it cool down like for a hour or more and then riding it again) when it has less than a 100 miles on it is good.Don't ride it at a steady load speed and non varying rpm and don't almost redline the poor thing the first couple hundred miles and it'll be fine.
Don't ride it like an old lady and don't terrorize it.Ride it like you do normally.

[sm=smiley20.gif] Glad to hear that, Ive been keeping it under 4000 rpms.so far, but its tough around here. I am constantly having to pull over to let people by cause I can only go 50mph... Only have 180 miles so far, cant wait till I can really ride.
