Default Power wheelie?

I know my bike has to be beast enough to power wheelie...but I don't ever feel it. It seems like I'm getting on the gas pretty hard too. I have read that going up with your front sprocket makes it more difficult and I'm not sure if my bike has had that done to it by a previous owner or not. Am I really being that much of a ***** with my bike?? Because it sure doesn't seem like it

You have a 636... it'll power wheelie with no problem. I doubt the previous owner went up on the front sprocket. I'd say your problem is with your technique. A power wheelie doesn't mean just holding it at full throttle. With a 600 (or in your case, a 636), you still need to coax it up. It's not gonna power wheelie in it's higher gears, mainly first and second (and third, if you really know what you are doing). Try bringing it to the beginning of the powerband, then let of the throttle (just long enough to compress the front forks a little) and crack the throttle open. That should pull the front wheel up with very little effort. However, power wheelies are the least efficient way to get the front wheel up... and I know for a fact that a 636 will clutch up with ease.

Yea it will definitely clutch up, the guy I bought it from rode one for quite a good distance back when I was thinking about buying it...I just thought i'd start with the power wheelies because it seems like there is less involved with it. I don't want to be riding one down the street, I just want to be able to get some lift. I'm gonna try what you have suggested here. Thanks!

If I can power my ZZR up in first and second gear, you definately can with a 636. In first gear, you won't even have to power it up. It's all technique. You just have to get a good feel for it. Hell, I was doing wheelies half the night tonight, and I have a Carb. 600.

alright so I did exactly what you suggested and I'm pretty sure I felt the bike lift. I might have just been feeling the bike pull real good but it felt like there was a slight landing once I let off the throttle. I have watched lots of good ol You tube videos about how to clutch up a wheelie, but for some reason I'm a bit timid of straight flippin over backwards or something crazy....ha

Don't be so timid about clutching it up. That's what I was doing all night tonight.

a 636 should have plenty of go. Just get comfy on it first.
