Default Finally brought the bike to the track.

Last night I brought the new 05 ZX-6R 636 to the local track. Full 1/4 mile, comp street light, and prepped.

If you go faster than 120 mph in the 1/4 than you are required to have full leather pants, so I went slow the first couple of times to get a feel for the bike and than at the end of the night I went full out until just before the end and then hit the brakes. With only 1200 miles I am still breaking her in, so I had the shift light only set at 12,500 rpms (redline is 15,500). The first few were all 12.5's at about 107 mph and the last one was a 11.999 @ 120.95 mph. I was doing 135mph and probrably would have done a low 11 high 10 sec 1/4 mile, but I hit the brakes hard to get below 120 so I could keep racing, but I just barely went too fast and that ended my night.

Needless to say, I am shopping for leather pants now and am very impressed with the performance of this bike. I will need to strap down the front since it came up on every shift. All in all it was a fun night. The pictures should be up soon. There is a guy that goes to the track and takes pictures of the launch.

Hey BigRig, my 11.999 had a .415 RT (redlight[:@]) - 60' was 2.22 and 1/8 mile was 7.967 at 97.74 mph. I was racing a newer GSXR600 that ran a 11.3 at 122.96 and I def. could have whooped him if I had stayed on it. We were side by side most of the track.

My best 60' was 2.18 and my fastest lights were on my 11 sec run. The guy taking the photos,www.actionracingphotos.com updates every Tuesday and this was Wednesday when I raced so they probrably won't be up for a while.

for leathers, i highly recomend www.topgearleathers.com. got mine from them and they are fine. full 2 pc suit was only like 250? they arent bad quality either! until then, dont worry about 1/4 mile times, work on your 60 ft bc thats the hardest part is launching these bikes. i got mine down to 1.8's pretty consistant, and it took me a while,

Unfortunately, this is the only picture they got of me. They were only working the Right lane and I kept going to the Left. The right lane had crappy traction and I keep getting loose on the 1-2 shift. I will spend more time in the right lane next time.

Nice man...... What kind of RPM are you launching at? Around 5-6 g's?

I bet on your bike, that 2nd gear shift is squirely... The front wheel trying to come up..... When you get your leathers, you are gonna have to re post your times. I bet you'll hit that mid 10 mark with the right light, launch, and the rev tached out!!

That's pretty cool looking... I'm more of a curvy race track fan myself... But there's something to be said for the simplicity of a good old drag race. Every little thing has to be perfect.

BigRig,
I could only launch at about 4k without the wheel coming up. With only 1200 miles, I don't want to glaze the clutch by riding it out at high rpms. Once I get the pants and the clutch has a good 2500 miles on it. I will def, hit the track again for that 10-sec slip.

Gerg,
I also do "Track Days" at the local motorcycle race track, New Hampshire International Speedway. A retired AMA pro does this event once a month called Tony's Track Days for about $225 for a day of learning and racing. I haven't done it with the new bike yet, but it was fun as hell on my old zx-6 so it should be a blast now.
