04 636 vs 450x honda dirtbike ????????
Alright, here is the deal. A co-worker of mine just got a new 2007 honda crf 450x dirt bike. Talking back and forth he said that his bike would get to 70 mph before I would. I thought it was kinda dumb and said lets do an 1/8.Hesaid no.Bottom line is he wants to bet me $500 he would beat me to 70 mph. I ride a 2004 636 with 9000 miles. Only mods are akrapovic carbon fiber exhaust and fender elim. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Thanks.

Either he wants to prove it or he doesn't. Tell him to put-up or shut-up.
I know I'm getting old, but life is too short for childish taunts. Someone challenges you (bikes or otherwise) do the math and walk away or just kick their a$$ and be done.

If you are equally skilled riders, i can almost garuntee that you will lose. I have a drz400 supermoto (not anywhere near as fast as the crf450) and a 2005zx6r... i can tell you that my supermoto gets to 70 quicker. Here is why
crf450 = 240 lbs.
zx6r = 400 lbs. (just guess wet weight on a stocker)
7lbs = 1hp in terms of acceleration.
crf450 power band starts at 2000 rpm
zx6r power band starts at around 10 000?(havent ridden the 04)
you will be slipping the clutch for atleast 2 seconds more than him...
to make this matter even worse, your bike, more speciffically your transmission is not designed for drag racing. You have a much taller first gear than the crf. How fast can you take first gear too? 90kmph? He will be out of first gear before he hits 30. If he knows how to shift w/o the clutch, that will make matters even worse for you.
zx6r stock gearing is 15/45? around there?
crf450 stock gear is ?/? not sure but i can tell you that it is MUCH MUCH MUCH higher.
If we want to nit pick, you can talk about how much less rotating weight his bike has over yours (single 220mm front disk, spoked rims, etc.)
If he shows up with road tires you are toast.
If he shows up with knobbies you might have a chance.
If he won't race you with out the bet, that is usually a tell tale sign that he is trying to hustle you. I wouldn't be suprised if he has done it before.
If you want to **** away $500.00 then you should just paypal it over to me so i can put a brembo master cylinder on my race bike.
Call up a friend with a 4 stroke 450cc and race him first to test it out.
