Looking for klx 250 KACR
FWIW, you can kick start without a compression release. I've done it with my Yamaha SR500, mostly just experimenting. When you have a manual compression release like the SR and all old British big singles, you only use the compression release to ease the piston just past TDC compression. That way when you kick you have nearly two full rotations of the crank to get momentum to have the engine fire with full compression. Same is actually done with the exhaust cam release as well, since when it is kicked hard enough to fire it will be spinning fast enough to have the compression release disengaged.
The difference is with the automatic compression release you can be a bit sloppier with kicking the engine over, not having to find TDC and all. And with a manual release it is quicker too.
The point is that if you try the following you can start the bike without a compression release:

The point is that if you try the following you can start the bike without a compression release:
- rotate the piston up to TDC compression with the kick starter
- carefully apply pressure to the kick start lever and it will slowly bleed off a bit of compression through the rings - until the piston has just gone past compression, when the compression decreased.
- let the kick start up to the top of its travel and kick with some force, like you mean it.
ya i took my acr to place back on the cam shaft after i did the MCM mod but then read that it doesn't really work that well with a 300 kit that i installed on my 250 , so i tried to get the acr out again which i did but putting it back to stock position the rivet wwas loose and plate came off and dont want to mess with this one rather get another used one. Ya ill try that in the mean time, people on ebay are sell the whole cam that i dont need.
Just keep in mind all you're doing is easing the piston just past TDC to get the most travel before it hits again when you give it a kick.
I guess everyone just throws the thing away when they press it out. I probably would if I pressed mine out. Won't now though.
