A plane just hit a highrise in NY!!!!!!! WTF

 

I hate watching news reports like that, They know absolutely nothing about whats happening, but provide in depth coverage of the nothing they know. But obviously not a terrorist action, either a pilot being stupid or had some kind of emergency.

For those of you unfamiliar with a metar that 9 miles visibility and clouds are 1,800 feet above the ground.
My very very unofficial guess was he got into inadvertent IMC as a VFR pilot and lost control.

1,800 feet is Marginal VFR, in a place like New York he never should have tried scud running in those conditions

 

Oh I absolutely agree with you but, living in NY I can't help but to get a little freaked out.....

 

yeah its pretty freaky. As a pilot we have to study alot of crashes to help learn what not to do. I bet I'll hear alot about it in class tomorrow. Are you close to where it happened?

Looks like it was a small plan and most likely an accident; I am listening to it on abc rt now.

 

Apearantly it was a Cirrus SR-20, we have a couple of them here, I'm gonna try to get my CFI in it. Ours is glass cockpit, theirs probably was too, which means the navigation equipment onboard is newer and more reliable than your average commercial airliner. I checked out the sectional cart and it looks like there is an area where he could technically legally travel through the area without getting a clearance to enter the Class B from ATC but he would have to stay below 1100feet. They say he was not in contact with ATC so perhaps he was just passing through and didnt want to talk to ATC but legally he has to maintain an altitude of 1000 feet above any object within a 2000 foot radius around the aircraft, which may not be possible. So if the pilot made it through he would probably have his licenses revoked anyway.

Yeah they just confirmed him dead.......bad year for the yanks. I live about 1 1/2 hrs away.

 

Tragic to say the least, people in NY must have been freaking out thinking about terrorist.
