A Californian nightclub owner has been relieved of his brand new Ducati Desmosedici at gun point, less than a week after taking delivery.

Dan Travers was in Santa Monica at a set of traffic lights when he was approached, “The guy appeared from behind me while I was waiting at a stop light. He told me to get off the bike and keep walking or he'd shoot. I couldn't see his face as he was wearing a helmet and dark visor. There was no one else around."

The 42 year-old was one of the first people to take delivery of their £40k MotoGP replica.

"I'm heartbroken," Travers commented. "I've been waiting for over a year for it to arrive and I've lost it in less than a week."

It’s not yet known whether the robbery was ‘targeted’ or if the scumbag, sorry, ‘suspect’ was nothing more than a very lucky opportunist.

Given how rare they are, we can only hope it’s tracked down soon.

The bike is almost a identical copy of ducati's 06 moto gp bike. If you can find one that is not taken already they are about 70k each and only 500 were made.

Really makes you think about stopping at lights even with our bikes. Never thought about being jacked before. Really sucks to be him, if he don't have a lojack or some gps, he's just a dumb guy with too much money. Maybe he can borrow Tom Criuse's...(seerelated post somewhere)

you spend that much $ on that nice of a bike, spring at laest $100~ for a decent tracking system.
most palm pilots have tracker capabilites, just duct tape one of those under the seat and TAAADAAA! a $30 lojack thatll last a lifetime and keep track of your events[&:]

 

hopefully he had full coverage LOL

 

at 500 made, prolly nothing to ride either after the insurance came true.
