RE: vacation time !
Didn't really have a choice... my wife is a Mexican citizen - so she can legally own property there, even though she is a US resident. I on the otherhand - cannot. What happens instead is the property gets put into a 99 year trust, during which time you can will it as part of the estate, but at the end of the 99 years, the property is then owned by the state. Kinda a rip if you ask me... because the place we got was just unbelievable... amazing views up the coast - perfect sunsets every night, and true luxo south beach condo type of finish & trim. So - in Mexico it is in her name, but through our finance company here, it is in both our names. I even offered to take it on the trust and then will it to her & her next of kin in the future, but no joy. Ah well... it was great while it lasted, and with the sale we make over what is owed, I should be able to put a decent dp on a new unit in the same building.
btw - to clarify - in the video you can see me pan around off the water and onto the shore - the building that is under construction just as it comes on shore is where we bought it. That video was shot in spring of 05, and we bought on that trip. It was complete for the following spring in 06, which is when the picture attachments were shot - you can see it both down on the beach in the first attachment, and also looking at the rest of the building from my balcony in the 4th attachment.

RE: vacation time !
Anyhow - I recommend Ixtapa hands down, sight unseen. Still rather small-restort-townish... not nearly as nuts as Acapulco... very romantic, peaceful, and stellar sunsets (I guess that is an oxymoron), and great nightlife. Everyone there also speaks English, French and Spanish - so you will be good to go. If you need some hotel recommendations, drop me a PM. You can rent jet skis, parasails, take cruises, rent 4wheelers for the beach, mopeds for the city, great food everywhere, plenty of alcohol, and if you are at all single - more hot latinas than you would ever know what to do with.

Prenup still wouldn't have saved it. By Mexican laws I still couldn't own it. The only thing it would have done for me here was save me on the $ responsibility. No big deal - things will end peacefully enough... but I already know she can't afford to buy it on her own, so we have to sell.
