I guess its to be expected when you come from a place where only about 50 years ago the president sent the Armyin to fight thegovernor's National Guard units.

Little Rock
History Lesson: 50's, 60's maybe, Civil Rights movement. Government ordered Desegregation in the school systems. In Little Rock it began with the Little Rock Nine, who were 9 African American high school boys and girls chosen to be the first black people to go to Central High. The Governor didn't want them to enter the school and mobilized the National Gaurd to keep them out. Because of this blatant action against the Federal Government, the President Nationalized the guard units, and brought in the Army to ensure that the 9 made it into the school. No shots were fired but it caused huge changes in the NG structure. Unfortunately in Little Rock, desegregation failed and ultimately merely inverted the race structure at the schools, once predominately white schools were now predominately African American and therefore did not receive the funding they deserve. I went to Central High's stadium for a football game andthe whole schoolwas dingy and falling apart from the lack of funding in our school systems, and the surrounding neighborhood reflectedthe lowering of the property value caused by the cut funding. How did we get on this??

That was a good lesson...I actually learned about most of that but I did not learn that it restructured the National Guard. My major in school was International Relations but I specialized in Pan African Studies so I came across that lesson many times throughout the years but I cannot recollect anyone telling me about the restructuring. Very interesting thanks for the insight.

 

Oh yeah at Central High School in Little Rock there is a tour and a museum....In Forest Gump when you see him pick up the book for the girl and you see the military all around....even though it was supposed to be college that was in reference to the Little Rock 9.
