They released it on the net and let people pay what they though it was worth. If you didnt like it...pay nothing. If it is good, pay what you think it deserves. Last report I heard was that most people paid and they were doing well with it. The record companies were screaming over that one.[8D]

the bands them selfs get very very little from the sale of cd's. From what I read radio head made an avg of like $3 and some change per cd. That is pretty much what they would have goten for the cd's sold in stores. I think the RIaa knows its only a matter of time till they are not around and they are trying to get as much money as they can while they can.[:'(]

typically the record companiesmake their money from the cd's - the artists make their money from performances.

by selling the albums online by themselves they may or may not make much money on it. but if it maintains interest in their group to keep them performing then it will get them money in the long run.

From some of the reading I did. The bands can get up to 30% of the total sales of CD's. Only top bands get that 30%. So on a typical cd they get up to about 4.50 or so per cd.

The way I see it the bigest advatage is that they are not under any record label so they own the songs for this album. All their past albums the record label owns the rights to the songs. So now if they songs are used for anything all that money goes to the band and not the label.

yeah. once they have a name for themselves and some capital the bands really don't need a record company at all.
