I have no doubt that America is ready for a woman or african american president as long as they are competent. I'm not sure what Obama has to offer but Hillary would screw this country so badly.

But back on topic, the only reason we have the second amendment right is because of people who follow the political ideas of John Locke. Basically Locke says that citizens yeild some of their rights to the government in return for security and prosperity, and if the government does not provide for its people then it is an obligation of the people to rebell against the government. The spirit of the second amendment is to allow the availability of arms in the event of a second American Revolution, even though that event is highly unlikely. Sofollowing in the spirit of the lawit should be BB guns that are illegal instead of assault weapons, sincethey would obviously fulfill the requirement of Locke's obligation to rebell against an oppressive or disfunctional government.

I believe we have the right to bear arms because the oppressed English who immigrated here did not and it was added to the Constitution to ensure more freedoms for the people.
