Gratz. Spend some time in the lot learning the new bike, and be sure to bed in the brakes properly.

huh? this is my first new bike...so what's the protocol as far as breaking them in anyways? Brakes scare me so do I need to do anything goofy with them? (the only time i ever dropped my bike was when I wasn't used to the brakes...once I figured out the front and the back I was fine...it was 5 years ago but still scares me about when I think about the new one...)

just don't grab them too hard while it's new. heating up the rotors will warp them when there new.

use the brakes gently and intermittently for the first 50-60 applications - give yourself lots of stopping distance and go easy on them. After that - hard braking only in emergency situations for say the first 200 miles.

Breaking in the rest of the bike - just don't rip the hell out of it, and you will be fine. Vary your RPMs, and don't go racing it around until after your first oil change (see owners manual on first oil change).

haha...well where I ride typically (city) you can't go faster than 45 or 50 mph...and I do a lot of my slowing down through gears not brakes....I mean I brake but very rarely hard....think I should be ok?

Yes - but just to be safe - brake even more gently than usual... at least for the first 50-60 brake applications. If you warp your front you will know it, and it will become a safety issue as it pulsing will cause some nasty vibrations. It should be silky smooth once they are broken in.

k....I will be extra careful....I figured on riding it around our new neighborhood just stopping and starting a lot for the first hour or so anyways just to make sure I'm good with the clutch /gears and whatnot....so it probably won't see actual roads till Sunday
