I haven't been able to go for a really long ride. I've got 140 miles worth of short rides on her though. I can't stay off! I'm going for a night ride tonight, it's warm enough.

I went for about an hour ride tonight. I rode around where all of the ranges and training areas are. I would have probably gone off-post, but I didn't want to have to keep my head on a swivel to make sure some jackess cager wasn't trying to run me over. I headed off to the deserted road and just explored her handling characteristics. I must say, I'm really impressed. I also went riding at night because I wanted to see how the guages are at night. I like them... especially the way they reflect off the windshield when I'm tucked in. After getting used to it, I'm sure I could use that as a HUD!

Maybe If you worked on it you could, just remember, a true HUD is focused at infinity, while your gauges are focused a foot away, so you wouldnt be able to look from the road to the "HUD" without refocusing your eyes, and losing the other image. A lot of problems occured with the first HUDs because the pilots would focus on the HUD image almost exclusively and lose sight of what was in front of them. But it could still eliminate a head movement if you can train your eyes to properly focus and return quickly.

That's somewhere along the lines of what I was thinking. I would lose focus on the road, but at least I wouldn't have to look away from it. Perhaps if I placed a flat piece of clear plexi-glass on the inside of my windshield, I'd be able to focus from one to the other a lot faster... plus the final image wouldn't be distorted.

know your bike grasshopper. know the sound of the exhaust, the gear changes and the wind presure against your helmet to know exactly how fast you are going.

and use the sun to tell what time it is

I am thinking that the gp races at indy won't be as fun to watch as the ama's at mid-ohio, but I still am planning on going. I just wonder how such a big venue will give as good of an experience, do you still have the freedom to move around? I have seen the site and it looks like we will be able to move to the best areas of the track still. Maybe some of you indy ppl can fill me in.
