Default DSHS building burned, total loss

I rode the bike down on Friday morning to see the final stages. That used to also be the Unemployment office years ago. A lot of people are out of work and even more are without help in this small town, especially the kids.[&:]

The news said it was accidental, probably a space heater. That's strange, because as a state building they are not supposed to have space heaters. It does remind me that we have the best volunteer fire department in the world here. What a great bunch of guys. And for a small town of less than 5000 we have the best equipment out there.

But why is the metal roof on fire? Metal can't burn at such low temps! Just ask the 9/11 conspiracy theorists!

Glad no one was hurt.

Looks like it was the shingles underneath the metal roof that were burning. Once those babies get going, there's no stopping them. If it's a state-operated agency building, they will be given relocation/service funds to continue to provide their mandated services to families and kids. The County will just need to locate another site until the building can be repaired or replaced (if my 18 years in the social service systemis accurate....)
That's why you unplug the coffee pot before you go home.
Sorry to hear about it. One more obstacle for the disadvantaged. [&o]

That's shame. How ironic and unemployment office putting people out of work?

Yea the metal roofing was installed last year over the 3-tab Composition roofing. Once that caught its like a blast furnace.

They can always open a temp office in a mobile office trailer. I'm sure most of the clientelle will be used to it anyhow.
