computer geeks, whats a good laptop
I have had good luck with just about any of the laptops I have owned or used. HP, Toshiba, Acer, Averatec, Dell and so on. Customer support seems to be what you are paying for in most of the dell services and the support is getting worse all the time. Of course I am in the computer business so I can usually fix them myself and dont have to worry about them providing me support unless a part goes bad and I need it replaced then it is fun going through their checklist to get the right part shipped out to you. Just make sure that when you purchase the new laptop that it comes with Office instead of Works. They are two different applications. Office includes Word and Excell where as Works is only a word processors if I remember correctly. This is more than likely what you will get with the lower priced laptops. The other option of course is to purchase the lower end laptop and then also purchase the office application seperatley. If you are going to be using roaming internet connections I would also recommend that you stay current with your antivirus/antispam programs as this is a good place to catch viruses and spam.
A 600.00 del would be great. I am running my store on 450 del pc and it no problem. I have hade del, hp and IBM lap tops, I have paid from 3500 to 600 and unless you are a supper gamer or a graphic artist go with the less expensive units.
Get MS office, it will have all the programs you will need, excel, power point, picture manager, word ect.
Also get lots of memory 1 gig min and 2 is better, all those programs eat up memory.
Happy shopping!

I bought a gateway laptop from bestbuy in Jan and it has been great 8gig ram, 160 gig hard drive, 64bit prcsr, +1 on getting office as well. I know someones gonna flame me for this...but I have been running vista for a few months and I really like it too! I reccomend going to bestbuy and asking them what they have on sale, usually have a good deal even if its not advertised.
My Toshiba P-35 is not the greatest for me. Runs good, eats up battery time, why I run an adaptor in the service van. Wi-Fi is good when I locate areas to use it. Think my Matsuma(sp) dvdrw is fried after only 2 years though.
edit: and it does not have a serial port so that I can reprogram my khi ecu!!!! [:@]
