Looks like a lot of work!

 

Yeah, a lot of welding involved, 2 solid weeks grinding out factory welds on the ragtop frame and the donor frame. If you notice there are two pieces cut off, the factory welds had to be ground out, then we had to cut those parts off with a sawzall to get to even more factory welds underneath!

It's been a heck of a project so far. Next step we're going to have the frame, upper/lower control arms, bumper brackets and some other misc parts galvanized. Then I've got a full hotchkis suspension package to bolt on. It's going to be a hell of a ride someday!

 

sweet!!!! My father in law has a 71 chevelle. He had me put a flowmaster dual kit on, and he put crager SS's on red with black vynl top.

the 71's are pretty sweet. Basically what everyone thinks of when they hear chevelle. I think it's the early 70's style SS stripes that are so popular. In '69 the SS stripes were just a spear down the side.

What made you get rid of your elky?

 

i sent a rod threw the oil pan. so i changed the engine. then my dad gave his old 4x4. i could'nt keep both and the elco needed alot more work like inteior so i sold it. i miss it to this day[&o]

 

Na, he wont let me drive it yet...... Its a 71, it only has the 307 in it, and its just a base model, 59k original miles on it.... its sweet!!! id love to have a chevelle..... my dad used to drag race a 69 nova with a 350..... he also had a street legal 427 nova..... [sm=Awwww.gif] he currently has a 73 chevy truck longbed, 454.

 

Sounds nice. This chevelle has a 350 out of a '71 nova and a powerglide. I'm thinking I might punch it out to 383 or get a crate engine. the ZZ502 from GMPP looks like a nice setup. The tranny def. needs to go. I've got a TH350 lined up for it.

 

i had a 327 with a 4 speed muncie and the hurst qiuck shifter. that thing was a rocket off the line. the 411 gears were much on the freeway tho
