I love the F model for good street use. Dump the ESCS for the zx6 or newer front end all together. Then play with your suspension setup. You could do this for under $300 The issue I had with the steel tubed frame was flex when you know that the suspension and tires are working. You stiffen up the suspension a tad more thinking that it is the damping ( and it does have damping issues). Don't get me wrong, I like the F models for street use, but not for too high spirited runs.

Well I guess the question now is is it worth it to mod for 17s? If so do you know how. The only reason I wanted to was because I was told you can only get crap tires for those rims. Question 2 is my bike has a sticker on the front fork that says ESCS and I was told it has something to do with electronic dampening so how do I test this system to see if it works? And if it doesnt what should I do?

PS Yes it runs 16 front and 18 rear.

the tires that i run on those old stock rims are the DUNLOP/QUALIFERS.they have the old/off sizes.also look at your tire and see if it says TUBELESS or not.

it not so much my riding style demands it as it is a personal preferance to know that .25 inch thick piece of rubber between me and the road is the best it can be. i would think even the biggest noob to riding would want the best tires he can get.

Then why ask if the 16 inch is good then ask on the 17 inch? availability that is.

i didnt ask if the 16 was good i asked if the 16 had to have tubes.

Dragone#19 01-26-2010 08:25 PM

not all tires need tubes, so I was thinking in the wrong direction then.

just wondering because it has tubes front and back abnd i didnt know if it was a have to or just because the tires were bald. it call for a bias ply tire but it shouldnt hurt to run radials should it?

it won't hurt to run a radial.if it's the aluminum rims you can actually put a tubeless tire on but have to change you stem probably.

My manual says tubeless. My '88 was tubeless, Tire size and geometry should be considered first. Then the tire combination for that application.
