I bought the bike yesterday.
When I drove it home on a 5 hour trip soon as I got back to my city the engine completely died on the highway.
The gas tank was empty and I had no warning! No Light!
I will check it myself but is there a writeup or anything on this subject?

Not sure on the 01 model having an idiot light for low fuel. My 90 zx7 I just used the trip meter. It did have a reserve switch on the petcock as well.

 

I have an 01 and there is no gas light. I also just monitered my trip meter and if i did run out, just switched over to reserve.

 

so do I have to do anything special when filling up?

Like Open the Reserve to let gas get in it? Then close it so it doesnt get used automatically after the 1st tank runs empty?

I have ran out of gas twice now and when I played with the reserve **** there was no extra gas.

Is it all the way right = closed. all the way left = open?

Also does our bike have an electronic fuel pump? So if I run out of gas there is a chance the fuel pump will burn out cause gas cools fuel pumps?

Nothing special when filling up. It will have an electric fuel pump. although the pump is located differently.

 

ok, then why do I run out of gas and then mess with the reserve tank **** and nothing happens?
I cant start it back up

keep the valve in the on position till it starts to sputter then switch to reserve. if you let it die completely it takes a minute of cranking for reserve to catch. reserve is whats left in your tank after it gets pass the normal level. it's the bottom of the tank.

 

which way is on?
is on all the way counter clockwise = open?
it sucks so much having to push to the gas station lol
the other day I had to push start for some reason
the starter (i think) wouldnt do nothing but barely click
(even had mechanics look at it without tearing into it)

on the ****, it should say on, off, and res. for reserve. And yes, if it does sputter and run all the way out, it takes mine a couple of minutes to start it just off the reserve. I'm not totally positive, but I think that the reserve might be close to another gallon of gas.

And the answer to my question is "Yes, because it DOES have an electric fuel pump you CAN burn out the pump by running out of gas"
