Question ZX-636 hiccups and shuts off after about 60 miles of riding.

I have a 2005 ZX-636 with about 19,500 miles.

The past few weeks I’ve been having a problem with my bike shutting off on me while I’m riding. The first time this happened; I was about 120 miles into my trip. I was on the expressway doing about 80 mph when my bike started to hiccup a few times. It felt like it wanted to stop. I pulled off the expressway and as soon as I started to slow down the bike just shut off on me. The motor lost power but all my power stayed on. I turned the key off and then turned I back on and the bike started right up. I rode for another 3 mile before it hiccupped a few time and then shut off on me again. I had about 3 gallons of fuel in my tank. I pulled into the gas station and let the bike sit for about 5 min. The bike was running just fine. Wasn’t overheating or anything. After I let it sit for about 5 min I rode home about 60 miles without this happening again.

I thought I had bad fuel so I took my fuel tank apart and cleaned it out. A few days later I went riding again and after about 60 miles it started doing the same thing. This has happened to me a few times now. But if I pull over and let the bike sit for a few min it won’t happen for at least 10 miles. If I let the bike sit overnight then I could ride another 60 miles before the bike starts to shut off again.

I took the bike into the shop so they can check the computer and this is what the computer told them:

Throttle sensor failure – 6 times
Inlet Air Pressure sensor Failure -6 times
Inlet Air Temp Sensor Failure 8 times
Water Temp Sensor Failure 6 time
Atmospheric Pressure sensor failure 6 times
Tip over sensor failure 2 times
Sub- throttle sensor failure 6 time

They told me that it was probably the servo motor failing for the butter fly valve for the exhaust.

Has this ever happened to any of you? Any Idea on what could be the problem. Any input would be great. Thank You

Wow, 7 failures huh? It is possible that all of those items are bad, but I would guess that its probably the ecu going out or overheating after the long rides. I have heard of people putting thermal tape under the ECU to help keep the exhaust heat away from it, since its the quickest and cheapest solution I'd start there and see if it helps. Let us know what you find.

Mine does the same thing. I thought I had fixed it with a new pulsing coil but I was wrong. I found that out this weekend. I went into dealer 2 mode on the bike and there were no codes for any problems. I have noticed a few other posts desrcibing the same type of problem and they are all on the 05 636 which is what i have as well. I my try the heat tap as well, but im tryin to save as much money as possible. Post more if you find anything else out please.
