Okay i change my oil today and i discarded this clamp thing that was on my oil filter does anyone know what it is and what its for also do i need it. Thanks

It's to prevent loosening; just an added security measure. Mainly to satisfy racing regulations which require the oil filter to be mechanically secured fro coming off/ loosening.
