Default What to look for in Older ZX-6r?

Found an older 1995 ZX-6r for purchase as a first bike and was wondering if any of you had any input as to this vintage. Current owner says it needs a tuneup, some body work and front fork seals. I am mechanically inclined with working with cars and am intersested in learning about motorcycles, i.e. I am not afraid to work on it myself - in fact I want to!

ANy input would be appeciated...

Thanks

when i bought my 95 6r, it ran, sounded perfect, till a week later, engine starting making noise and stuff, so i just did a swap,, just to let ya know, with an older bike you may run into probs like me, make sure you dont pay too much and have extra money on the side in case something does come up,,

how many miles are on the bike and has it been dropped, any pics???

Owners decription:

23,xxx miles, fairings do have cracks in them and there is also a 1-2" rip in the seat. Back tire has many seasons left, front tire has about 1 left. Has after market exhaust, headers, jet-kit, and polished frame. Has a cracked seal in the front fork and needs a tune-up. Besides that it's a great first bike. I used it just to learn on and now I'm upgrading. Don't be shy to ask any questions or request more pictures. Also comes with bike cover.

I'll try to get some pics up in a couple of minutes. I am certain it has been dropped due to the cracks in the bodywork. He is asking 2k OBO. Of course I am thinking around $1500...

I certainly understand your concerns. I did ride a 100cc bike years ago when I was in high school, but that was many years ago. I am older, so I am a firm believer in gearing up with the appropriate safetyequipment and taking it easy.
