either way it seems like more work than it is worth. Have you checked with the local DMV and see what they say about the paperwork? I have known people that have restamped frames as well. But remeber it is not illegal until you get caught.

check the rules. you can restamp a frame here with your old vin but you need the origin tag off the new frame and the paperwork to get it all legit. if your doing something with the intent to get away with it till you get cought then its not worth doing. i.m.o.

Dragone I was just trying to point out that it could be done either way just one way could get you in more trouble and it is true nothing is illegal until you get caught. but also integrity is what you do when no one else is looking.

In a seroius crash, the frame is always in question. If the insurance company totals a bike, it can have a salvage or rebuilable title. If you get a new frame and rebuild the bike with all straight and undamaged parts, you essentially have a clean, almost new bike and you'd have to register it as such except for the mileage on the engine. Ofcourse that varies from state to state. I have a 85 ZX600R trackbike with a new frame without any numbers which I had replaced my street frame with. It was destroyed in a race. I can get new numbers issued through the DMV if I make it street legal.
