Welcome to the forums, I say a steering damper is needed for hard ridding but it can also help you out if say you were to ride over something in the road like a 2x4. I would put it on your list of wanted mods for sure, but for just normal around town ridding you can get by with out.

Right!! Thanks for the info. I actually do alot of twisty ridin' and as you can image we aren't exactly that slow. I don't gunrun on the highways as much as I am in the country ridin' the curves. So I guess I will be saving my pennies for one.

It helps alot on hard excelleration when the front has little traction and is prone to head shake.
Have fun.

after setting up my suspension, the bike did alot better then it did at its factory settings. then i got suckered into a group buy on the hyper pro dampers. after a smooth and really easy install () i put it through a street/canyon hell test and it really did help out in every aspect of riding.

With the 636's, it's highly recommended because of the effortless wheelies during acceleration. I hit tankslappers during acceleration when the front wheel came back down a couple of times and I wasn't even trying. That was with a stock map with my FMF S/O. I got a Hyperpro on there asap with another MAP also that doesn't lift the front as easily that is about to go BYE BYE (the MAP). IMO, GET ONE ASAP. I know at least one person who crashed his new 636 due to a tankslapper.

It was the first thing I put on mine! I would highly recommend it to everyone that has a sportbike.
