Default Starting issues???

I recently bought a 2000 zx6r Ninja. The strange thing is that the starter button only works if the bike is in neutral and I am not squeezing the clutch lever. Is this normal?? Shouldn't I be able to start the bike with it in gear andthe clutch is in? I have only ridden it a couple of times. I bought it a few weeks ago, then brought it to a shop to be tuned. Because I just got back from vacation, it has been about three weeks from the first and last time I rode it. Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear I could start it in any gear with the clutch in when I bought it. I'm wondering if the shop screwed something up??

It's normal. I have never seen a bike that new that could start in gear. Just for ****s and giggles, is the kick stand down or up when you try starting it. Even if the clutch is in, when I put it in gear with the kick stand down, it shuts off right away.

o5zx6r is right make sure the kick stand is up and then give it a try it should run with the clutch in and the bike in gear.

It's normal. On the old SV you have to hold the clutch in also.

Yes, you should be able to start it with the bike in gear and clutch pulled in; unless the clutch release switch is bad.

Where is the clutch release switch located?? I tried looking it up on the parts assembly diagrams on the kawasaki site, but couldn't find it.
