Need help on sprocket/chain setup

Default Need help on sprocket/chain setup

I have a 2008 zx6r..according to the service manual, it has a 520 chain with 112 links. The front sprocket has 16 teeth and the rear has 43 teeth.

Now, what I want out of this bike is to have more low to mid range torque, and based on the research i've done it sounds like I want to do a -1/+2 swapout to make it 15/45. I pretty much know I want something along those lines, but several questions arise when doing this...

1) Is there a way to use my existing chain with that setup of sprockets?? If so, do I have to change the length of the chain?

2)will going +3 in the rear and leaving the front as it is equal out to the same as -1/+2?? And if I did do it that way, can I still use the same chain?

3)Is going just +2 in the rear good enough or do I really want to go -1 in the front?

remember going down a tooth on the front sprocket is the same as going up +3 on the back, if you go -1 +2 its the same as goin up 5t on the back sprocket but you can run -1 +2 with the stock chain tho

Thanks! that helps out a lot is there anything else I should know?

i went +2 on the back of my 98 and it made quite a difference. i WISH i went -1 and +2 but the guy who was my mechanic at the time said that the sprocket up front was small and if i went -1 it would chew up my new chain. doing this swap will TOTALLY toss out your speedo, but will greatly increase your bottom end. wheelies will be much easier, but your top end will suffer. most people don't drive around at 165 mph very often so it isn't that much of a problem i think you will enjoy the swap.

I heard about something called a speedohealer that corrects the speedo problem is this accurate? http://www.healtech-electronics.com/
Ya I don't care too much about top end i'd rather have the low end. Can't wait to get this done!

EDIT: oh ya, and how will this setup effect my gas mileage??

when you choose sprockets alot of guys like to use aluminum to save on weight savings but i like to run steel sprockets because they last far longer than the aluminum ones

you're mileage will suffer. nothing too bad i don't think. the speedo healer is a great idea. it's suppose to work well i'm told. i'm sure there are a few people here that have experience with them. you're gonna LOVE the sprockets
