Default My Latest Project- "CUSTOM" 1 peice rear

Well tonightthe kids went to bed early and I have been unsucessful finding a rear seat for my zx-6r for the past 3 months, I felt Froggy and decided to start bulding the cowl/1peice rear...

I bought a 22 guage sheet of plastic to use as a template, basically to cover the gaping hole left by the missing seat.. I am building the rear out of fiberglass and this process should be completed by the end of the weekend.

I looked at several "race tails" and thought they looked too bulky. This is a streamline option that has a very slight curve. I am going to fiberglass over the handle holes, the taillight hole (installing a clear/red led strip)and I hope it modernizes the rear end a little.. All in all this beater bike has come a long long way..

As always I appreciate your input.

What are you going to use to support the fiber glass while you're laying it?

That is what the plastic thing covering the hole where the seat is supposed to beis for..... I cut a peice of plastic (22 mil *very hard*) to cover the hole. The fiber matte will be layed down over the entire rear section and pulled tight. Then when that cures the top sheet of fiberglass will cover the matte. I will sand it all down and then smooth out the dips.

That's nice of them to want to share. Your tail section is going to be flat, or are you using high pile pad to build it up. I've seen people use Styrofoam to create the shapecoat it with wood gulethen spray it with NVOC primer (I think that's what it was) and lay the glass on that to shape it.

It's going to be pretty much flat.. I am not a fan of the "hump in the trunk"... It basically is just going to look like there was never a rear seat there... I just really needed to cover that hole.. Everytime I ride in the rain I get a "skunk stripe" up my back..lol..

I want to get a rear seat and some rear fairings that are in better shape... But until then this will do. I have $20 invested at this point..

Did a little more shaping and sanding... Unfortunately I am covered in fiberglass shavings and the shower did not help with the itching..lol..
